My humble submission:
Transformation of superficial peace into inner peace is Islam. The word Islam is a derivative of verb سلم which means the action taken to become free, safe and secure or peaceful from any affliction. The word Islam [اسلام] is a form four verbal noun thus the action of verb is performed upon self and is reflected in the self. Islam should be reflected in the self first.
If we understand the right essence of the message of the book Quran, every character is a vibrant sign / symbol [ayaat] or manifestation of spirited concepts and is associated with our own psyche [Nafs] that leads to transformation of self towards inner peace [Islam].
The words closely related to Islam are Salam, Salamat, Salim, Taslim, Salman, Suleman, the essence of which are acceptance or peaceful surrender to peace, safety, soundness, security, health, wholeness.
Training our mind to remain peaceful despite the presence of anxiety or stress is the main topic of the book Quran. Being at peace should be the top most priority of every individual. The opposite of peace is stress or anxiousness. Peace of mind is thus generally associated with bliss, contentment, happiness, calmness, soundness, safety and security.
The true inner peace is considered a state of consciousness or enlightenment that can be cultivated through simple contemplation on our own nature of thoughts. Inner peace cannot be achieved by mere chanting some “sacred words” or performing certain rituals or having a good environment. Inner Peace depends upon the nature of thoughts we experience daily. The literature of the book Quran is all about experiencing and witnessing by the self rather than believing it theoretically; that’s the reason the narrative of the book Quran does not require outside references or evidences. The person who understands its essence does not require outside proofs as he can experience the narratives of the book Quran within himself or his own nafs.
An atmosphere of peace must first be created within our own selves, and then gradually expanded to include our families, our communities, and ultimately the whole planet. We cannot serve tea from an empty cup; to serve others, first we need to have tea in our own cup. Similarly we cannot provide or become server of Peace unless we have it within our own selves.
Inner Peace can never be achieved by waging wars or imposing rules and regulations or dictating do's and don’ts or rhetorical preaching or establishing just and fair environment around us. Inner Peace is a revolution of heart, mind and soul that transforms into the sea of love. This sea of love overflows from the gates of peace submerges all the path of hatred, jealousy, rivalry and enmity. History is witness to it when Islam reached the shores of South India, Maldives, Malaysia and Indonesia without any aggression and invasion. There were no Arab armies but few Arab traders along with their immaculate character and families. They influenced the locals by accepting and respecting all their respective cultures. There was no preaching of the book Quran to them, they lead by personal charisma of love, honesty and loyalty. Instead of imposing their beliefs they accepted their culture. This massive peaceful conversion proves the appeal of genuine message which the ideology of Islam and the message of the book Quran carries.
Our thoughts are our greatest enemy as well as our greatest friend, they reflect in our action and behavior. Inner peace can be achieved by altering our toxic or negative thoughts into positive thoughts. It is not easy to achieve inner peace in the atmosphere of anger, ego, greed, rivalry or any type of illusion.
HOW TO ACHIEVE INNER PEACE [ISLAM] IS BRIEFLY EXPLAINED IN VERSE 5:3
One cannot achieve inner peace [Islam] by entertaining 1) destitute thoughts or 2) thoughts acquired due to anger. Neither we have to entertain 3) self magnifying thoughts or thoughts under illusion that can alter the perfect configuration of our system of consciousness. We are also forbidden to tolerate or give attention to 4) thoughts that suffocates or 5) hurt the brain. 6) The destructive thoughts and 7) we are also forbidden the thoughts that lead to arguments and consume your overall intellectual power.
We are allowed to understand clear cut things which are proportionate with our intellectual capacity and that can be easily understood with our own mind, that’s the way to relinquish your toxic burden of thoughts. This is the submission [Deen] of Inner Peace [Islam]. The moment of despair is for those who ignore this submission of Islam.

Forbidden on you is the process
of destitute thoughts [الْمَيْتَةُ] and the bloody/cruel
thoughts [الْدَّمُ], and the closely knitted self magnifying thoughts [لَحْمُ الْخِنْزِيرِ], and what alters the amicability of the system of
consciousness [Allah] with it, and the thoughts which
suffocates [الْمُنْخَنِقَةُ], and that which hurts the brain [الْمَوْقُوذَةُ],
and destructive thoughts [الْمُتَرَدِّيَةُ], and the thoughts which leads to
argument [النَّطِيحَةُ], and what is consumed by the congregated
intelligence [أَكَلَ السَّبُعُ], except what you understand [ذَكَّيْتُمْ] with
your own mind, and what is clearly distinguishable / marked [النُّصُبِ], and
that you seek to separate [تَسْتَقْسِمُواْ] with the proportion [بِالْأَزْلاَمِ],
that's the way to relinquish [فِسْقٌ]. The moment despair [يَئِسَ] is
for those who are ignorant [كَفَرُواْ] from your submission [دِينِكُمْ],
so do not fear them, and fear Me, today I completed for you your submission [دِينَكُمْ],
and I completed on you My Composure [نِعْمَتِي],and I accepted/approved for you the
inner peace [الْإِسْلاَمَ] as submission [دِينًا], but whoever is hurt in the due
process of considerate behavior [مَخْمَصَةٍ], altering wrongfully towards
unlawfulness, then indeed system of consciousness [Allah] was/is Protecting,
Merciful.
